As a performer you will be invited to special events where you not only need to look your best but be professional as well. These formal style secrets will help you make the most of those opportunities. Getting ready for a Gala or any formal event takes a little more thought than going to a party. This will be a night filled with picture taking so looking photo ready is essential. You will also be mixing in a crowd of friends and celebrities so being your public best is very important.

These tips will help you to look your best and feel confident.

What to choose– Be sure before an important event that your clothes have been thoroughly gone over. This is a glamorous night so dress to impress! Sparkly, shiny, long or above the knee dresses are best. Black formal pants with a dressy top will work as well.

Fit and form– Be sure before you leave to the convention that you try on clothes and look in the mirror from all angles. Does the outfit fit you well and flatter your figure? Is it too revealing? Be glamorous but remember you are at a professional event so avoid a garment that’s too revealing. For men a suit is best. Pants should sit on the hips and a shirt with a tie is most appropirate.

Prepare– Check for missing buttons, rips, falling hems and stains so there are no surprises the special night. Be sure to iron or have the garment pressed before you leave the house so when you get to the hotel and unpack wrinkles will come out faster. Your iron in the room does have a steam setting which can help for those little wrinkles.

Accessories- Shoes, jewelry and handbags are important to add excitement to your outfit. Create longer lines by wearing matching shoes to your dress or pants. Shoes should be tested always before an important night to make sure they are polished, heels are smooth and not scuffed. For ladies if you choose to wear heels be sure you know how to walk in them prior to the event so you feel confident and comfortable. Purses should be formal and compliment the outfit. Too much jewelry can be busy so as a rule it’s best to choose two pieces for instance a earrings and a bracelet. The more sparkly the better as this will photograph nicely for the night. Always have a wrap with you just in case you get cold or need to cover.

Dress up your positive– If you have pretty blue eyes wear blue to bring them out. Have nice arms? Wear sleeveless to show them off. Be sure to wear the right undergarments that looks smooth and help flatter your figure.

Be comfortable– Avoid anything too tight or uncomfortable that you can not sit in for long periods of time.
