Ages 3-6 Dance Stage Makeup

Twinkle Star Pinks

Twinkle Star Pinks

Children have cute little faces that are bright and animated but on stage their small more delicate features can fade and be hard to see. A little makeup on these tiny performers applied correctly can go along way to keep them looking their age and looking their best on stage. A mother or an assigned make-up artist will undertake the task of application which can sometimes prove quite challenging. Children are not at ease with someone poking around their eyes, and hate keeping still for any length of time. Mascara, liner, and lipstick can prove particularly difficult. Here are a few easy make-up techniques that have worked well for me to keep these tiny dancers looking great and feeling more comfortable. Pink Lip/cheek in easy to apply cream formula adds just enough color to enhance naturally.  This is marked on the bottom of the compact. The additional Stage Red Lip/Cheek is perfect for adding more color to the pink as needed or just choose red a classic stage shade when needed.

Brows are very important as they draw the focus to the eyes and with the application of eye makeup being softer at this age a perfect brow to frame those eyes is a must. Learn “How to Achieve Beautiful Brows” here.
Apply the eye makeup first to avoid messes.

The following look can be made easier to apply using our wonderful 8 Piece Brush Kit.

Eyes– Use Define burgundy color in outer corner. Balance with warm rose shade just above crease across eye bone. Highlight with the cream shimmer onto the lid, under brow, inner eye corners. Using a wet Liner Brush, line just at outer corners to open eyes. Do not meet lines.  Mascara in black applied to the upper lashes opens eyes even more.  False lashes for large stages are recommended in our Cabaret length. Cut lashes into tiny pieces and glue just add the outer corner as shown on our model to open eyes even more.

Pretty In Pink 5 Color Compact

Cheeks– Apply the creamy soft pink shade high on the cheek apples using clean fingers, or sponge. For deeper skin tones add a little of the red cream shade to enhance and deepen. Perfect to compliment the costuming that this age group often is performing in.   On the cheek bones apply the soft cream shimmer Highlight to add dimension to the bone structure.

Skin tone– Children have lovely skin but can easily flush on stage making skin tones look uneven. Cheek flushing from performing can distort blush color application and create a blotchy appearance. Be sure skin is properly hydrated so foundation and powder go on easily and look smooth. Use our 5 Color Pro Pallet Concealer to even out any imperfections or redness and set with a translucent face powder in their skin tone. Avoid Mineral Makeup as this is light reflective and can distort features under stage lights.

Lips– Lips on children are so small and from a side view often haven’t filled out. Applying a lip shade can be difficult as the lips are small and hard to apply color too. Using a Lip Brush or sponge tip applicator whenever possible to make the application easier. Apply cream shimmer Highlight eyeshadow just at center of upper and lower lip for pop.

Children love glitter. Our model is wearing Crystalina Glitter used sparingly across the lash line secured with Diva Glue.

HOW TO REMOVE MAKEUP FOR CHILDREN

Removing stage makeup properly is just as important as putting it on correctly. Always avoid soap especially around the eyes. Before cleansing off a stage face use eye makeup wipes or makeup remover wipes over the eyes first downward strokes so eye makeup stays out of eyes. Never rub side to side as this can work the product into the eyes and cause stinging and burning. Finish by wiping lips to begin breaking down color as well. After eyes are clean massage a lotion wash onto the skin. Use warm water on a dark colored wash cloth to begin removing makeup, then splash face with water. The heat from the water on washcloth breaks makeup down quickly and the dark color of the cloth prevents stains.
Choosing a proper product to wash skin is very important. Children are sensitive so only use products designed for the face.
